Munich Oktoberfest FAQ's

When does the Munich Oktoberfest Beer Festival take place

Oktoberfest always kicks off on the second last Saturday of September at precisely noon when Munich's mayor taps the first keg at the Schottenhamel Tent, yelling "O'zapft is" (It's open). Many visitors will arrive well before noon (they start arriving as early as 7am) so as to experience the build-up in atmosphere of the event and to secure good seats.

The Oktoberfest then runs for two weeks and concludes on the first Sunday of October. This is always the case unless there happens to fall a public Holiday (Reunification Day) on the Monday or Tuesday after the first Sunday of October, in which case the Oktoberfest may be extended for one or two days.
