Royal Ascot Attire: A Fashionistas Guide

Ascot is one of Britain's most popular racecourses and Royal Ascot is Britain's most popular horse racing carnival. Held in one very special week of June every year around 300,000 visitors, over the course of 5 days, compete with one another in a hedonistic display of fashion and fame with each of them trying to out-do the other. The Queen, who's carried a special equine love since her youth, is always in attendance, and whilst there is always plenty of interest in the celebrities that attend the event, it's the speculation around what colour the Queen will wear each day that grabs the headlines.

Royal Ascot is definitely the event to revive and rejuvenate your outfits that have been hibernating over the cold UK winter months. The carnival is held just before summer so the fashion emphasis is usually on lighter clothing ranges, with the weather tending to be quite pleasant during the event. Women usually track towards breezy summer outfits and Men, lighter fabric suits. For women fascinators, headpieces and hats are worn and range from the ordinary and mundane to the outright crazy but are usually regarded as the most important aspect of an outfit! The headwear can consist of any kind of patterns, designs and colours. You can go a subtle and understated in style or a completely over the top. It won't matter, you'll be accepted! In fact, try to let your imagination run wild and go for the craziest concepts like food, tablets or ice cream cones, all of which have been tried in previous years!

As for the specific dress guide for the event, we break it down comprehensively for you below;

Queen Anne Enclosure Dress Code

Ladies within the Queen Anne Enclosure are encouraged to dress in a manner as befits a formal occasion and ladies are kindly asked to take note of the following:

[:] A hat, headpiece or fascinator should be worn at all times.
[:] Strapless dresses and tops are not permitted. Please note our definition of strapless necklines include off-the-shoulder, Bardot and one shoulder.
[:] Trouser suits must be full-length and jumpsuits should fall below the knee. Both must adhere to the neckline regulations above.
[:] Midriffs must be covered.
[:] Shorts are not permitted.

Gentlemen within the Queen Anne Enclosure are required to wear a full-length suit with a collared shirt and tie, and kindly asked to take note of the following:

[:] Jackets and trousers should be of matching colour and pattern.
[:] A tie should be worn at all times. Bow ties and cravats are not permitted.
[:] Socks must be worn and should cover the ankle.
[:] Jeans, chinos and trainers are not permitted.

For both Women and Men: Overseas visitors are welcome to wear the formal National Dress of their country or Service Dress. Please note that fancy dress, novelty and branded/promotional clothing are not allowed on site. Serving military personnel are welcome to wear Service Dress or equivalent.

Village Enclosure Dress Code

Ladies within the Village Enclosure are required to dress in a manner as befits a formal occasion and are kindly asked to take note of the following:

[:] A hat, headpiece or fascinator should be worn at all times.
[:] Strapless dresses and tops are not permitted. Please note our definition of strapless necklines include off-the-shoulder, Bardot and one shoulder.
[:] Trouser suits must be full-length, and jumpsuits should fall below the knee. Both must adhere to the neckline regulations above.
[:] Midriffs must be covered.
[:] Shorts are not permitted.

Please note, the Village Enclosure is largely an outdoor area and ladies should consider their hat size and choice of shoe accordingly. Smaller hats or fascinators and wedges are recommended in place of larger hats or stilettos.

Gentlemen within the Village Enclosure are required to wear a jacket, full-length trousers, collared shirt and tie, and kindly asked to take note of the following:

[:] A tie should be worn at all times. Ties, bow ties or cravats can be worn in the Village Enclosure.
[:] Socks must be worn and should cover the ankle.
[:] Jeans and trainers are not permitted.

Windsor Enclosure Dress Code

Ladies and gentlemen within the Windsor Enclosure are requested to dress in a manner as befits a formal occasion. It is recommended that ladies wear smart attire with a hat or fascinator and gentlemen wear a jacket, shirt and long trousers. Fancy dress, novelty and branded / promotional clothing are not allowed on site.
