The Official 2012 Munich Oktoberfest Poster
Every year since 1952 the Munich Oktoberfest has had a unique official poster. Each year invited candidates submit their works from with one poster is selected to represent the Oktoberfest for the year.
The 18 participants usually come from art and design schools or have won some prize or award before to qualify for a starting place in the Oktoberfest poster competition. Each artist gets to submit two designs and no matter how well their designs are accepted they receive a royalty of 500€. The jury chooses the winning poster without knowledge of who designed which poster.
In 2012 no second place was awarded so the two runner ups shared the third place. Each of them received 750€.
The winner not only gets a prize of 2750€, but they enjoy the honor of seeing their design work on 1000's of posters and brochures plus, since 1978, the winning design ends up on collectable glass steins and stone krugs plus the growing number of souvenirs like pens and key rings.
