Geographical Location of Gallipoli
Gallipoli is actually a peninsula of land in the European side of Turkey which is bordered by the Aegean Sea to the west and the Dardanelles Strait to the east.

Covering an area of over 80,000 acres the region here has a Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and hot summers.

Because of the events of the Allied campaign here (that prominently featured the ANZACS) and because of the many Turkish and Allied lives that were lost here, Gallipoli is basically one huge graveyard. A place of spectacular natural beauty Gallipoli has been maintained as a National Park since 1973.

Gallipoli Location Historical Significance
Gallipoli holds great historical significance due to its strategic importance during World War I.

The Ottoman Empire had control of the Dardanelles Strait, and the Allies sought to gain control of it to open up a supply line to Russia.

The Gallipoli Campaign, which lasted from 1915 to 1916, saw heavy fighting between the Allies and Ottoman forces here.

The campaign resulted in a stalemate and significant loss of life on both sides, but it helped shape the outcome of the war and eventually Turkey as a nation.

Gallipoli is now a site of remembrance and commemoration for those who lost their lives during the battle.
