Check into camp, tour briefing, welcome BBQ and party
Own arrangements to Haro. Check into PP Travel's base at the campsite (PP's Haro Camping Base on Google Maps) which is about a 20 minute walk from where the Haro bus station is located about 15 minutes from the Haro train station. Upon check in our experienced staff will go over the tour details with you and explain what is to happen over the next couple of days. You'll be given a full run down on what to expect at the wine fight and this evenings pre-party so you can get the most out of this amazing event and get right into the heart of the action the following day.
At 5pm this evening the BBQ will fire up to kick off the PP welcome party (sangria/beer included). We'll have some groovy tunes playing and it'll be a great opportunity to meet other passengers and make new friends.
After the welcome BBQ at around 8pm we'll head into the old town of Haro for the massive pre-party that goes all night in the town square. There is live music, bars, thousands of people and a magnificent atmosphere.
Day 2 - Friday 29 June 2018
Batalla Del Vino - Haro Wine Fight - Brunch and Haro after party
After catching a few hours sleep - or perhaps none as the Haro street party runs all night - virtually the entire population of Haro at dawn makes the short trek to the fight venue, a local park/scenic lookout at a nearby mountain range. Free local bus shuttles run from besides our campground to fight venue, approximately 5km from town. Then the fun begins.
The 29th is the day of the patron saint San Pedro - a massive day for the townsfolk of Haro. It officially kicks off with a procession led by the town's mayor, on horseback, to the Cliffs of Bilibio, where a mass is celebrated followed by the crazy morning wine free-for-all. Hundreds of thousands of litres of wine are brought in from local vineyards. It's complete carnage as the entire crowd attempts to cover each other in wine using their hands, water pistols, buckets, balloons and basically any vessel they can find. Wine soaked bands continue playing lively Spanish music as the fun-filled crowd continues to soak each other. The atmosphere is electric.
Late morning most drift back to town (free shuttle buses operate) to either continue the celebrations at the Plaza de la Paz or have a much-needed siesta.
Back at PP's base, we offer a hot brunch. Then have a much-needed shower, enjoy a swim and perhaps a well-earned afternoon rest before heading back into town for another night of street partying.
Day 3 - Saturday 30 June 2018
Check out of your tent by 11am, say goodbye to new friends and we hope to see you again soon (perhaps at San Fermin in Pamplona).
Flights to Bilbao, Zaragoza, Pamplona or San Sebastian
The best location to fly to with the quickest transfer (bus and train) to Haro is Bilbao. The best website to book your own flights is Opodo. It was created by the major European airlines and offers usually the cheapest options with them all. This site is also excellent for flights into other major cities like Barcelona, Madrid or Biaritz.
