Event and PP Tour Information
Britain's richest race and the world's premier flat race, the Derby has been creating champions since its first running in 1780. Set amongst the beautiful and picturesque Surrey countryside, the Epsom Downs Racecourse sits atop the rise proudly in all its glory.
There are two days to the Epsom Derby Festival incorporating Ladies Day on the Friday and the running of the Oaks and, of course, Derby Day on Saturday named after the world's most famous race.
This is one of the major events on the British social calendar. Epsom Ladies Day has all the fashions you would expect from such an event and Derby Day itself is a day that not even the Queen would dare miss out on. Her Majesty has now attended Derby Day for over 70 years and still maintains a horse drawn Royal Procession down the straight each year.
Look at the value inclusions in the PP Travel day tour packages;
- Return coach transport to Epsom Down Racecourse from London.
- Picnic style buffet lunch upon arrival
- Excellent bar service with quality varieties of red and white wine along with bubbly and beer!
- Entrance provided to the Tattenham Enclosure
- Grandstand Enclosure upgrade options and meet there packages available
- Tour leader for the day.
- Typically great fun and PP organisation.
Ladies Day - Running of the Oaks: Friday 2nd of June 2017
Derby Day - Running of the Derby: Saturday 3rd of June 2017
The meeting itself dates back to 1780, when the premier race of the meeting was named after the 12th Earl of Derby. Since then the name has become closely associated with the greatest and most prestigious of the world's flat races.
You also have the option of choosing to upgrade to Epsom's grandstand on any of PP's Derby Festival tours. It costs an extra £50 for a grandstand ticket on both the Friday and the Saturday of the meeting. It is here, in the grandstand, that you will have access to the parade ring, a larger range of facilities, be closer to the finishing post and you might also be lucky enough to have the opportunity to rub shoulders with various attending celebrities.
Please note that grandstand upgrades must be requested and paid for at the time of your booking and are subject to availability. Your lunch and drinks will still be served in the Tattenham Enclosure along with all our other guests. You will be issued with a separate entry ticket to the grandstand and you can come and go freely between enclosures.
Meet at Epsom Option:
If you are travelling from other parts of the UK or not from central London, it may be easier for you to make your own way to Epsom and join us at our lunch/party zone before entering the races. We offer a no transport option for £20 less than our coach tours - you get everything that a normal package includes, except the journey from central London to Epsom and back.
At Epsom in 2017 our cold buffet lunch is served right by the coach in the Tattenham Enclosure, inside the last four furlongs of the home straight. The Royal Procession on Derby Day also travels right past our area about a half an hour before the first race which is usually around 2:30pm. You can certainly give the Royals a wave from here as they pass our setup close by.
All our tours include entrance to the Tattenham Enclosure. There is a more laid back atmosphere here than the main grandstand and there are plenty of facilities including bathrooms, bookmakers, food outlets, bars, live music and much more. With the enclosures proximity to the track, you can cheer the horses on as they gallop down the home straight by the rails. While the racing is certainly first class, it is sometimes the action off the track that can be the main attraction. The colourful clothes, amazing hats and range of outfits on display, coupled with the whole prestige of the Epsom Derby festival, make this awesome social outing and event much more than just a famous race meeting.
Lunch is provided in the Tattenham Enclosure from midday for all PP passengers. With a drinks service accompanying lunch and into the afternoon.

We depart Embankment at 8.30am sharp in the morning. On the return journey we depart Epsom at 7.00pm, about 90 minutes after the last race (which is around 5:30pm) is finished, and aim to have you back in London around 9.00pm depending on traffic. Your PP rep will give you instructions on the day.
The buffet luncheon PP Travel provides on all our Epsom Derby Festival tours are extensive. It is a cold buffet and there are plenty of vegetarian options. You will not go hungry, we assure you!
Lunch is served just in front of where the coach is going to be parked in the Upper Tattenham Enclosure. The area is grassed and we recommend you bring a picnic blanket to sit on. You can bring fold up chairs for lunch if you desire and you can leave your chair under the coach during the day if required. If you are making your own way to the racecourse, it is your responsibility to make your own way to the Upper Tattenham Enclosure for lunch.
Racing at Epsom over the Derby Day Festival, as well as hosting the richest race in Britain, is a BIG PARTY EVENT - so it would certainly be amiss not to provide drinks with lunch. You have the choice of quality red or white wine with your meal - and there will be plenty provided as well as bubbly and beer. Free non-alcoholic drinks are also available both on the coach journey and throughout lunch at the track.
We encourage all passengers to have adequate travel insurance on our tours as there is always the possibility for injury or loss. If you do not have your own travel insurance at the time of booking your PP Travel tour you can be offered the option to take out a travel insurance policy for the day with our provider.
